Para-Tech Sea Anchor - 12 Foot

Para-Tech sea anchors may be the easiest sea anchors in the world to use. A deployable stow bag eliminates the tendency for a parachute sea anchor to "catch air" and inflate on deck. The bag is simply tossed overboard with the sea anchor inside. The sea anchor automatically deploys in the water from the bag, safe from the effects of the raging wind. All Para-Tech system components are likewise designed for ease of use and clean deployment.

A note about rigging and rode:
All components used with your Sea Anchor MUST be suitable for storm anchoring and bow attachments (cleats, Sampson posts, etc.) MUST have backing plates. Rode MUST be NYLON and 10 to 15 times the boat’s overall length. A stainless steel swivel is highly recommended. MULTIHULLS also MUST rig the rode to a bridle with EACH leg being 2½ times the beam of the boat and rigged to the OUTER HULLS. Adding a length of chain somewhere between the boat and the Sea Anchor will create some catenary in the system to help reduce shock loads, making the ride more comfortable. A partial trip line is the simplest way to retrieve your Sea Anchor.

Specifications & Sizing Guidelines:
Sizing is first based on length overall with weight, then keel configuration and windage are taken into account. Note that generally the greater windage of power boats equals the greater draft (wetted surface) of sailing craft, hence the same size Sea Anchor. When in doubt go to the larger size. General recommendations are as follows:

Boat LOA under 20'; Displacement under 4,000 lbs.:
- 6' sea anchor (6" dia. X 7" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA under 25'; Displacement under 8,000 lbs.:
- 9' sea anchor (6" dia. X 9" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 25' - 33'; Displacement under 12,000 lbs.:
- 12' sea anchor (8" dia. X 12" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 30' - 40'; Displacement under 25,000 lbs.:
- 15' sea anchor (10" dia. X 15" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 35' - 48'; Displacement under 40,000 lbs.:
- 18' sea anchor (12" dia. X 17" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 40' - 90'; Displacement under 95,000 lbs.:
- 24' sea anchor (13" dia. X 19" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 70' - 120'; Displacement under 200,000 lbs.:
- 32' sea anchor (16" dia. X 25" tall packed dimensions)

Boat LOA 120' - 150'; Displacement under 300,000 lbs.:
- 40' sea anchor (18" dia. X 30" tall packed dimensions)
