#1 Base Coat is completely clear and gives wood a stunning natural look with a beautifully accentuated grain. Standard application on bare wood requires four (4) coats applied without sanding in between. It produces a high gloss film with a rubber-like membrane so it can expand and contract up to 3/16th of an inch.

#1 BC is a concentrated polymerized product and must be thinned for proper application results using only the special TS Reducer. Use of substitute thinners will often spoil the product upon contact. On average, consumption of TS Reducer vs. #1 BC is 1:2 but this also includes use of the TS Reducer for wood preparation, cleaning spills, hands, etc. Recommended product dilution ratios are specified in the application guide.

#1 BC may be applied under conditions impossible for varnishing; in direct sunlight (avoid very hot surfaces), high humidity, rain (if working under cover), and near freezing temperatures. Acceptable temperature range is 1°C (34°F) to 40°C (105°F). Under normal summer conditions, #1 BC dries very fast. It is possible to apply four coats in one day and sand the next morning to prepare for #2 Top Coat. When drying time is too fast more thinner should be added to extend the wet edge as necessary, but caution is advised while applying a converting coat.

Coverage: Approx. 100 sq.ft. (9m) per 500ml per coat when thinned as recommended.
